State Quota
Karnataka NEET UG Counselling 2026 is the official admission process for MBBS and BDS seats across government, private, minority, and dental colleges in the state. It is conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA). At MedMatrix Global, we believe that understanding this process thoroughly — well before it begins — is what separates students who maximise their rank from those who leave seats on the table.

Counselling 2026 — Overview

Karnataka receives applications from both state domicile students and students from other states for various seat categories. The process typically runs across multiple rounds — Round 1, Round 2, a mop-up round, and a stray vacancy round — depending on vacant seats and official directions. Every step from registration to college reporting requires careful preparation.

Eligibility Criteria

Every student must qualify NEET UG 2026 to be eligible — there is no path to MBBS or BDS admission in Karnataka without a valid NEET score. Beyond that, KEA has specific eligibility conditions that vary by seat category.

Academic Qualification
Class 12 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology, and English — with minimum marks as per category.
NEET UG 2026 Score
A valid, qualifying NEET UG 2026 score is mandatory for all categories without exception.
Karnataka State Quota
Domicile, study certificate, parent service details, Kannada language conditions, and reservation rules apply. Read the KEA bulletin carefully.
Other State Students
May apply for select private or open-category seats depending on KEA’s current rules. Not eligible for every seat type.
Reservation Certificates
Caste, income, rural, Kannada medium, Hyderabad-Karnataka, and other certificates as applicable must be valid and submitted correctly.

Online Registration Process

Registration for Karnataka NEET UG Counselling 2026 will be conducted entirely online through the official KEA portal. Every deadline must be followed — KEA does not entertain late applications. Use an active mobile number and email ID; all important communications will arrive through these.

  • 1
Visit the official KEA website and open the UGNEET 2026 registration link.
  • 2
Enter your NEET UG 2026 roll number and other required details to begin.
  • 3
Fill in personal, academic, and category information accurately.
  • 4
Upload documents if prompted during the registration process.
  • 5
Pay the counselling registration fee through the online payment gateway.
  • 6
Submit the form and download the confirmation page immediately.

Any error in NEET roll number, name, date of birth, marks, or category can create serious problems at verification. Double-check every field before submitting.

Documents Required

Document verification is a non-negotiable step. Prepare originals and photocopies of everything listed below well before the process begins. Ensure that your name, date of birth, parent name, marks, and category details are identical across all documents — any mismatch needs to be resolved before counselling starts.

“Choice filling is not a formality — it is the most consequential decision in the entire counselling process. A student who fills choices strategically, based on real data and honest self-assessment, will almost always outperform a student with a better rank who filled choices carelessly. This is exactly where MedMatrix Global makes the difference.”

Choice Filling & Option Entry

In Karnataka, choice filling is officially called option entry. Your seat allotment depends entirely on your NEET rank, category, seat availability, and the order in which you list your preferences. This step demands research and deliberate thinking — not speed.

Seat allotment is algorithmic. KEA’s system assigns you the highest-ranked option on your list for which you qualify at your rank. If your top choice is unrealistic, you fall to the next — which is why both the order and the range of choices matter.

FactorWhy It Matters for Choice Filling
NEET RankDetermines which colleges are realistically within reach — don’t guess, verify against previous year cutoffs.
Previous Year CutoffsThe most reliable predictor of where your rank can land. Analyse multiple years, not just one.
Seat MatrixShows how many seats exist per category and per college. Seat numbers change yearly — always use the latest.
Fee StructureGovernment seats and private seats differ significantly. Factor in annual fees, hostel, and other charges before listing.
Bond PoliciesSome colleges carry rural service bonds. Understand obligations before committing.
College LocationRelevant for practical concerns — travel, accommodation, family proximity during a demanding degree.
Hospital ExposureClinical learning quality varies. Tertiary care hospital attachment matters for your training.
Hostel AvailabilityEssential for students relocating — confirm before listing colleges far from home.

Always list your choices in the order you genuinely prefer — most preferred first. Fill enough options. Submitting only a handful of choices is one of the most avoidable mistakes in counselling and reduces your allotment probability significantly.

Seat Allotment Process

KEA allots seats based on NEET UG 2026 rank, category, reservation rules, seat availability, and the choices you submitted. The process runs across multiple rounds until seats are filled.

Where applicable, KEA releases a mock allotment before the actual result. This is a dry run based on your current choices — it shows which seat you are likely to receive. Use it carefully. If the mock result reveals a better option is possible, rearrange your choices before the window closes.

After final allotment, log in to the KEA portal and check your allotted college and course. Read the post-allotment instructions precisely — a wrong choice at this stage (accepting, floating, or upgrading incorrectly) can cost you a seat or eliminate you from future rounds.

Fee Payment & Reporting to College

After accepting a seat, pay the prescribed fee within the stipulated time. Missing the payment deadline results in automatic cancellation of the allotted seat. Fee amounts vary by college type and seat category — government seats carry substantially lower fees than private, management, NRI, or other quota seats.

  • 1
Accept the allotted seat and complete fee payment before the KEA deadline.
  • 2
Download the admission order from the KEA portal after payment confirmation.
  • 3
Carry all original documents, photocopies, photographs, fee receipt, and admission order to the college.
  • 4
Report to the allotted college before the deadline — arriving early is strongly advised.
  • 5
College officials will verify originals and complete the admission formalities on-site.

Not reporting on time may result in seat cancellation and, depending on KEA rules, may affect eligibility for further rounds. Do not leave this to the last day.

Counselling Tips That Actually Matter

These are not generic reminders. These are the steps that distinguish students who extract maximum value from their rank from those who look back and wish they had done things differently.

01
Collect all documents before registration opens — not after. You will not have time to fix mismatches mid-process.
02
Follow only the official KEA website for dates. Social media schedules are unreliable and change without notice.
03
Build your college shortlist before option entry opens — with cutoff data, fees, bond rules, and location factored in.
04
Never choose a college purely based on rank availability. Fee burden, location, and training quality are equally important decisions.
05
Fill as many valid choices as possible. A narrow list is a self-imposed handicap in an algorithmic allotment system.
06
Save every receipt, allotment letter, confirmation page, and fee document in both physical and digital form.
07
Use the mock allotment window seriously. It is one of the few chances to course-correct before the final result.
08
Report to the college early. The last day is a risk — document issues, travel delays, or administrative queues can cost you the seat.
